home - tips & tricks |

Initially when you apply products to your project, they appear flat, as if they were applied to a wall directly facing you. The perspective tool allows you to match the angle of the products with the angles of the house in the photo.
Once you know how to use the perspective tool, the following are some tips & tricks that will help you use it more effectively.
**Please note that the you can add perspective to both masked products such as siding, brick, roofing, masonry, etc. as well as objects such as windows, doors, vents, shutter, etc.

If you are unsure how to use the perspective tool, go to the training video section of this website or view the animated tutorials and help files, located in the Help tab of your HomeWorks software.

Applying perspective can be a bit tricky. One way to think of laying the grid is to picture the grid as a piece of paper. You need to lay the grid flat as you would a flat sheet of paper rather than a crumpled one.
Generally, to get the perspective you would follow the roofline or the angle of a particular wall of the house.
However, there are a few surfaces where you will not be able to follow this general rule. In these cases, you will need to adjust the grid so that the lines of the grid are on an angle that would make sense for the product.

Incorrect
(You will notice that the grid is trying to follow the roofline, however the grid is getting squished at the top as opposed to flat like a piece of paper.)

Correct
Notice that the grid lays flat and is not crumpled. You only need to get the angle of the surface rather than the dimension of the surface, as the above grid is trying to do.

If you have multiple regions or objects that share the same angled plane, you can copy the perspective from one region to another.
For example, this works great to add perspective to angled walls or windows that are against an angled wall.
- To do this, create a region such as siding, apply product and add perspective.
- Next, apply an object such as a window, to that region.
- Select the new region, or in this case the window, and then click Perspective.
- Now click Choose located below the Perspective button. Your cursor will change to a hand with a perspective grid beside it. Simply click on the region that you are matching the perspective to and the perspective will be added to the new region or object. It’s that easy!

Mastering the technique to applying perspective can take some time. Remember, you can always re-adjust the perspective in your project until you get it right. |
