SARAH HOLTOM live action, video, 2007 In the summer of 2006, Sarah Holtom painted 100 portraits of Calgary Artists of all genres and disciplines. This ambitious project found its subjects through a network of invitations into the local arts community, branching off into several degrees of separation. By inviting 3 initial artists and asking each to invite 3 more until she reached 100. I was invited to be in the network by Calgary musician Mark Hamilton, who was one of the original seeds. While she created my portrait, I positioned a DV camera (Canon GL1) over her shoulder and shot a time-lapse directly into my laptop using iStopmotion software. |
