CHRONOSCOPE
Pre-Cinema Apparatus, 2003

Chronoscope is an original projector and film system that employs a film disc instead of a film reel like most conventional movie projectors.  The film disc has 60 frames and projects at exactly one frame per second and loops indefinatley. The projector is reminiscent of an era at the dawn of cinema when a myriad of inventors and inventions deluged filmmakers and viewers alike with new inventions.

Lapse is a movie created for the Chronoscope. It is a one-minute looping film that is a probation of uncertainties, mysteries and paradoxes found in nature and in nature’s collision with culture. I aim to mine the order that lies in this uncertainty using a filmic description of an event. I have created a dream-like illusion that traps the viewer in a never-ending cycle.  Transporting the viewer from a domestic comfort to a natural environ through a wormhole in a lavatory time-space portal. The hidden or unknown is more intriguing to me than that which is accessible. This film examines the nature of how we see and our perception of reality
